The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), has held its 2026 Vice-Chancellor’s Reception to welcome newly admitted scholars and celebrate the achievements, growth and impact of continuing scholars within the university community.
Lead for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at KNUST, Prof Kofi Owusu-Daaku, highlighted the programme’s contribution to inclusivity and transformation within the university.
He said that the programme has played a significant role in promoting gender and disability inclusion at KNUST, noting that many differently abled students have benefited from the scholarship initiative.
He encouraged scholars to remain disciplined and focused, cautioning against actions that could negatively affect their future and the image of the programme.

Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, commended the Mastercard Foundation for its continued partnership with the university over the past 12 years and its commitment to nurturing young African leaders.
Prof. Dickson noted that the partnership between KNUST and the Mastercard Foundation continues to nurture and empower students to turn their abilities into meaningful impact within their communities and beyond.
“We see great potential in you as brilliant, smart, gifted and talented young people, and together, we can transform or move from that potential into impact for society and the continent,” she said.
She urged the scholars to make responsible decisions, remain committed to their purpose and never lose sight of the opportunities they have been given.
“Do not let yourself down. Do not let your family, community, country or continent down,” she advised.
The Vice-Chancellor further encouraged students to support one another, pay attention to their mental health and make good use of the support systems available to them throughout their academic journey.
